Jerusalem, 20 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure continues to promote the “100,000 Solar Roofs” program, which it says will strengthen the “energy independence and resilience of the State of Israel, enable citizens to generate profitable sources of income, contribute to reducing air pollution, and help the government meet the goal of producing 30% of electricity from renewable energies by 2030.”

The program is expected to make solar energy an integral part of the housing culture in Israel, 50 years after the energy sector changed by requiring the installation of solar water heaters on buildings, which reshaped the housing culture in Israel.

To that end, last week the Ministry promoted a series of significant steps, including the approval of new tariffs by the Electricity Authority to shorten the return on investment time, removing barriers, establishing a website where anyone can check how much they can earn, launching a campaign to increase awareness, and more.

These steps, it explained, are designed to encourage individual homeowners and residents of condominiums to install solar systems on the roofs of their buildings. Installing solar panels allows system owners to benefit from additional financial income and consume energy during emergency hours, while producing clean electricity for the benefit of their health.

The move has economic and strategic benefits with far-reaching impact:

For households: Dramatic savings in electricity costs through the sale of excess electricity to the grid, a stable annual return of over 14% for 25 years, and energy independence for households in cases of routine and emergency power outages.

For the State: The plan will strengthen Israel’s energy sector, make it more decentralized, resilient and diverse, and reduce dependence on external energy sources. The plan will ensure a stable supply of electricity even in emergency situations, while making a significant contribution to maintaining a clean environment.
